MetaEdit+ 2.5 program updates
These patches are only applicable for MetaEdit+ 2.5 versions, release date November 1996 or January 1997.
The patch links below are direct links to the .pat files, which are binary files that MetaEdit+ can read with its 'File in Patches' function in the startup launcher. Download the patch by selecting 'Save to file' in your browser: do not attempt to view as HTML pages! Check the size afterwards: some browsers appear to download these as ASCII files, when they are in fact binary files.
How to use patch files
The basic idea is to run a clean MetaEdit+ image, file in the patches using the button in the initial Startup Launcher, then exit the image which saves the image with those changes. Patches must be filed in in order, only optional patches may be omitted.
More detailed instructions are here.
All patch files are supplied 'as is', with no guarantees, and no liability for any damages is accepted by MetaCase Consulting.
- winkeys.pat (10074 bytes) - Optional
- Changes key mappings to more closely match Windows standard: Ctrl-C = Copy etc. See winkeys.txt.
- me970321.pat (159738 bytes)
- Adds import and export of metamodels via type
patches, possibility to change time zone and
look & feel. Several other minor additions and corrections. See me970321.txt.
- me971014.pat (72023 bytes) - now corrected: earlier versions with different sizes should not be used.
- Adds report output to multiple files, Diagram zoom to fit, handling of new file systems
(e.g. Samba). Corrects project creation, symbol saving in type patch and role line
changes. Several other minor additions and corrections. See me971014.txt.
- meplus95.zip (301184 bytes)
- This is not a normal patch, but rather a zip file which contains a new executable
and DLLs for MetaEdit+ on Windows 95 platforms. These allow use of Windows95's own 'host'
printer drivers; previously MetaEdit+ printing worked fine on Windows 3.1 and NT, but only
to PostScript printers in Windows 95. Simply unzip this file in the directory where your
existing meplus.exe is, replacing any files there with the same names (you may wish to
backup your existing files first).
Known Problems
Please check these, you don't need to report them again to us if you find them, but if something listed here actually works OK for you, or you have more information, we'd be interested to here about it! * means the problem has been corrected and will be released in the next patch.
- Frequent random crashes on Pentium III >=500MHz (1.4.2000)
- This is caused by cache memory timing: turn off the processor's External
Cache in your Advanced BIOS settings
- Symbol changes are not saved
- Saving changes to role line colour and width was corrected in me971014. Saving changes
to any symbols imported from a type patch made with an image with only me970321 fails. The
exporting of symbols was corrected in me971014, and you should load that first. To correct
such existing imported symbols apply the repository patch perssym.pat (1062 bytes) according to the instructions.
- *Removing bottom binding in Graph Tool's Bindings Tool gives an error
- When the last relationship in the Bindings Tool left-hand list is selected and removed,
an error occurs. The removal has however been successfully completed, and you may safely
press 'Terminate' in the error dialog and continue.
- Abandon while metamodelling
- Sometimes when properties are removed from types, some instances have empty values in
that property even after the transaction is abandoned.
If you have all mandatory patches to date, and your problem is not explained in the
manual, help text, readme.txt or these known problems, please email us with a description of your problem. Well
described problems will be dealt with more speedily: remember to include the relevant
section of the meplus?.err error log, if an error dialog appeared, relevant details of
your system, and version and license type of MetaEdit+.
