3.4.1 Opening changed elements

You can Open the selected graph, binding or property from its pop-up menu in the Changes tree. This lets you see the element in its current context and inspect its current state as normal. If the selection is a Graph that has a diagram, Open will not only open the current diagram, but also highlight the elements that had changes in that transaction. In the example in Figure 3–51, the Laptime object, its Action, and their relationships have been added. The Down button and the sysTime, startTime and stopTime variables have been reused by adding new representations for them, and since Ignore representations is on, they are not highlighted. Note that a change anywhere within an object or binding highlights the whole object or binding. As elsewhere, the red highlighting will remain visible until you change the selection in the Diagram Editor.

Highlight Changes

Figure 3–51. Open a changed graph, highlighting changes.

Note that, as with the names displayed in the tree, the information is taken from the current state of the repository: the old versions do not exist as separate copies of every object etc. Elements no longer present in the current diagram thus cannot be highlighted. For many cases, Open thus gives a quick, intuitive, graphical overview of what has changed, shown in the context of the current state of the model. For the full details, you can use Compare (Section 3.4.2).
